Pizza delivery sales are thriving in 2020, but is quality service still a priority?

Make sure your receiving a quality pizza...you don't want to get burned!

Domino’s Pizza began rebranding long before the pandemic hit with their six (6) “Can-Do” actions that are now benefitting the company during these trying times. The company has been focused on quality production for a few years now and is still standing by their “Carryout Insurance Program” during the pandemic. The insurance program allows customers up to two (2) hours to exchange a pizza that was either made incorrectly or was ruined by an accident of some sort.

For the pizza industry, a global pandemic was just the thing companies like Domino’s and Papa John’s needed to help revive sales and overall business. Business is booming for these popular pizza delivery chains, but many are unsure how long this increase in sales will last.

According to Pizza Magazine, the US market accounted for almost $51 billion in pizza sales in 2019, only 2nd in the world after Western Europe.

No one in history could have ever predicted how important the pizza industry would be for civilization during a global pandemic. But this unexpected growth isn’t stressing out the major players in the game.

At the beginning of the pandemic, Domino’s began hiring back 10,000 employees starting in the month of March. Domino’s reported a 16% sales growth in the US Market during the second quarter, which is much higher from the 3% it saw in Q2 of 2019.

Papa John’s saw a 28% growth in sales in the US market during the second quarter of the year, according to Fortune. In order to meet the demands for pizza at the beginning of the pandemic, Papa John’s had to hire 20,000 new employees. The company has now pledged to hire another 10,000 employees and is expanding its tuition program by adding Southern New Hampshire University and University of Maryland Global Campus to the list.

Based on sales reports from major pizza delivery chains the total annual amount of pizza sales is on a much faster upward trend than the same time last year. It is very unclear the future of sales in the upcoming quarters. The future of the virus has been met with many mixed thoughts and opinions. Some experts say the sales growth will decrease in Q3 and Q4 because many states have come out of lockdown. However, others strongly believe we are in for a rocky Fall season as schools began to open up and flu season starts while the country is still fighting the COVID-19 virus.
